From Ponta de São Lourenço, the Atlantic ocean stretches out far into the horizon, touching the edge of the endless azure sky. Above the ocean, clouds gather and pull away, casting deep shadows over the water and some of the most stunning cliffs on Madeira.

The walk on the peninsula de São Lourenço gave us epic vistas of the eastern end of the island. The peninsula itself continues to extend far beyond the end of the walk. Unfortunately, the effects of weathering have broken up the land mass into many smaller islands over the years, and we couldn’t walk till the very eastern end of the island.

For more on our day on the peninsula, take a look at our post “Hike on the Peninsula of São Lourenço“.

Many thanks to our guide David from the Up Mountain Madeira for taking us there!
